How to Make Your Own Cuticle Oil Pen / Easy Refillable Containers

cuticle oil pen

Dry, cracked cuticles can make even the best manicure look a little sad.

The good news? You can make your own nourishing cuticle oil pens at home for a fraction of the cost — and refill them over and over.

Not only will you save money, but you’ll also know exactly what’s in your product.

This DIY blend uses skin-loving jojoba oil, vitamin E, and a trio of my favorite essential oils to hydrate, protect, and keep your nails looking salon-fresh.

My daughter made me one of these cuticle oil pens years ago, and it’s been the best thing ever.

I keep one in my purse, at my desk, and in my sewing room.

These make wonderful gifts!

Why a Cuticle Oil Pen?

  • Mess-free application – The brush tip lets you apply oil exactly where you want it.
  • Perfect for on the go – toss it in your purse, desk drawer, or travel bag.
  • Refillable – One pen can last a long time if you wash and refill it.

Ingredient Properties

Jojoba Oil:

  • Technically, a liquid wax rather than an oil, jojoba is very similar to the skin’s sebum, which means it absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue.cuticle oil pen

Jojoba oil  is the liquid produced in the seed of the Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba)plant, a shrubby plant that is native to southern Arizona, southern California, and northwestern Mexico.

  • Naturally rich in vitamins B and E, as well as zinc and copper, it helps to strengthen nails and deeply moisturize cuticles.
  • Has antimicrobial properties that can help protect against minor infections around the nail bed.

Vitamin E Oil:

  • A powerful antioxidant that helps repair and protect skin from damage.
  • Supports collagen production, which keeps skin around the nails supple.
  • Helps seal in moisture to prevent cuticles from drying out.

Lavender Essential Oil:

  • Known for its calming, soothing aroma that also relaxes the mind.
  • Has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help heal tiny cuts or hangnails.
  • Gentle enough for daily use, making it perfect for skin care blends.

Rosemary Essential Oil:

  • Stimulates blood circulation, promoting healthy nail growth.
  • Contains antioxidants that protect nails from free radical damage.
  • Adds a refreshing, herbal scent that pairs beautifully with lavender and lemon.

Lemon Essential Oil:

  • Brightens the appearance of nails and can help reduce yellowing.
  • Has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties.
  • Provides a fresh, uplifting scent — a perfect mood booster whenever you apply it. (You’re going to love it).

How to Refill “Non-Refillable” Cuticle Oil Pens

One of the fantastic things about these pens is that they can be refilled.

The cuticle pen instructions will tell you that they are not refillable, but they are if you use this “hack”.

Here is how it is done:

You’ll need:

  • Your empty cuticle oil pen
  • Paper towel or cloth
  • A rubber band or tacky cloth can help you get a better grip on the plastic.
  • Small funnel or dropper bottle
  • Your cuticle oil mix

Step 1 – Remove the brush tip section

Remove the plastic lid.

Remove the lid from the pen.

Wrap a large rubber band around the bottom section of the barrel, and you can wrap another one on the upper barrel if needed.
Gently twist and wiggle while pulling — until it pulls off.

Step 2 – Take out the inner plunger

To clean and sterilize the components, soak them in a small bowl of rubbing alcohol for 20 minutes, then let them dry.

  • Inside the barrel, you’ll see a white or clear plug/plunger that pushes the oil toward the brush.cuticle oil pen
  • Remove it from the barrel and twist the shaft towards you until it reaches the lowest level.
  • Insert the shaft back into the barrel along with the barrel cover. It will snap into place.

Step 3 – Refill the barrel

  • Using a dropper or small funnel, fill the pen barrel with your new cuticle oil blend.
  • Leave a small air gap at the top so the plunger can move freely when you reassemble.

Step 4 – Reassemble

Snap or press the brush tip section back in place.
Twist or click to prime the pen until the brush is saturated.

Put the lid back on, and you are ready to roll.

Foot Myofascial Release: Use a Tennis Ball to Relieve and Prevent Pain

stretch your feet

Are you experiencing knee, foot, hip, or back pain?

The problem may be in your FEET! In this post, I show you how to use a simple tennis ball to relieve tight, dehydrated connective tissue in your feet.

This foot myofascial release exercise will help PREVENT and RELIEVE bunions, plantar fasciitis, weak arches, and even knee, hip, and back pain.

Our feet are the furthest body part from our brain; therefore, they often get neglected and forgotten. Are you neglecting your feet?

  • We shove them in our shoes all day.
  • They take on our whole body weight
  • We rarely touch and massage them
  • Our feet are often judged and criticized.
  • We seldom exercise or stretch our feet.

It’s time to start giving your feet some lovin’!

I have a YouTube channel called “Gentle Yoga with Jan”. The channel focuses on sharing a more gentle approach to yoga.

After all, not everyone has the stamina to do a “power yoga” practice or the flexibility to get into most traditional yoga poses.

I love yoga and taught classes for over 20 years. Having some health challenges of my own, I can relate to those with chronic pain, inflammation, and fatigue.

As of late, teaching yoga has been put on the back burner while I take time to heal and do some healing work for myself.

Yoga CAN be everyone, and there ARE ways to modify the traditional poses for even those with limitations.

Practicing yoga can be a lifesaver, and I hope you won’t be afraid to try it!

Back to our FEET!

I have a few videos that focus on the FEET.

In the first video, I show how you can use a simple tennis ball to release tight, dehydrated fascia in the feet.

This foot myofascial Release exercise is simple, doesn’t take much time, and all you need is a tennis ball.

What are the benefits of foot myofascial release work?

  • mobilizes toe joints
  • hydrates connective tissue
  • stimulates nerve endings
  • foot mobility and stability (which will help with balance)
  • overall sense of well-being
  • stimulates lymphatic system
  • improves circulation
  • relieves common foot pain, bunions, plantar fasciitis, weak arches, and even knee, hip and back pain
  • stimulates reflexology points in feet

How often should I do this?

Daily if you can. I recommend placing your tennis ball somewhere that you will see if frequently to help remind you to use it!

Are there any restrictions?

If you have a diagnosed injury or condition, take care to modify where needed. If you are currently under a doctor’s care, talk to them to make sure this is suitable for you.

Keep in mind that while doing myofascial release work, you may feel some mild or severe tenderness. Start off slow. You don’t need to feel pain for it to be effective!!!!! You are in charge of how much pressure you are applying. If you haven’t done this work before, you may be quite tender.

Drink plenty of water before and after working your feet!

Take off your shoes and socks and give this a whirl.

Foot Myofascial Release Instructions

Grab a chair to hold on to. That way you won’t be wobbling around trying to keep your balance. This will also help take some pressure off your hips.

If you are unable to stand, you can do this seated as well.

Begin by placing the ball underneath one of your feet. Gently roll the ball around to get a feel of what your feet feel like.

myofascial release 1

Bring the ball to the center of your foot in zone 1 and start applying pressure on and off.
Then apply pressure and hold. Take a few deep breaths. (Remember this doesn’t have to be painful).

myofascial release 2

Move the ball to zone 2 just under the bottom joint of the BIG TOE.
Apply pressure on and off and hold. Take a few breaths.
Do this for each toe.  (You won’t be putting the ball under the toe itself, it’s the bottom joint).
Once you’ve done this for each toe, move the ball back to the big toe joint.

myofascial release 3

Apply pressure again, but now keep the pressure while gliding the ball outward toward the baby toe. Zone 3
(Try to roll underneath the bottom joint of each toe). Do this 3-4 times.

myofascial release 4

Now move the ball back to the big toe joint again for zone 4.
Starting at the big toe joint, apply pressure and roll towards the heel.
Bring it back to the next toe and roll towards the heel. Proceed in this same way for each toe.
myofascial release 5

Bring the ball just in front of the heel bone. (This place can be very tender for some).
Apply pressure on and off and then hold. Breathe.
Now while applying pressure, pivot the heel and roll the ball side to side.
Be gentle!

myofascial release 6

Move the ball to the place just under the upper pad of foot and to the left.
Apply pressure on and off and hold for a few breaths.
myofascial release 7Move the ball over to the other side, just below the baby toe and under the pad of the upper foot.
Apply pressure on and off and hold for a few breaths.
No move the ball over to the middle of the upper foot.
Scrunch your toes over the ball as if you were trying to pick up the ball.

Release that and now flex your toes back. Repeat that sequence a few times.

Finish by rolling the ball over your foot.

Now here is where you get to see the magic!

It is VERY important at this point to assess your body and take note of what has just occurred.

Body awareness

  • Stand in a neutral position with your arms hanging relaxed at your side.
  • Feel your body.
  • Does the left side of your body feel any different than the right?

Upper Body assessment

  • Fold forward with your arms hanging freely.
  • Relax
  • Notice if one arm is hanging lower than the other. (Is it the same side as the foot you just worked on)?

If you notice a difference, this shows how just working your feet can affect the rest of your body.

This is because we are dealing with connective tissue here.

The fascia (connective tissue) is connected to and affects all body parts.

So, working the fascia in our feet also affects the knee, hip, back, and shoulders. COOL STUFF HUGH?

NOW repeat the same sequence on the other foot
(Unless you want to be lopsided)

After completing the other side, retest. See if things have evened out.

Tension Release For Neck and Shoulders – No Massage Therapist Required!

tension release

You know it well: the tightness, the dull ache, hunched up shoulders, decreased mobility in your neck. I am going to show you an EASY and SIMPLE hands on technique for neck and shoulder tension release that works fast! There is no massage therapist required!

So often, tension takes hold in our neck and shoulders long before we even know it. It’s not until we have pain, stiffness and impaired mobility that we pay attention and try to do something about it. Being aware of what you are doing and where the tension is actually coming from, is one of the first steps in stopping this vicious cycle.

Using this tension release technique will

  • wring out tension
  • increase mobility
  • replenish stiff muscles with oxygen, rich blood
  • make you feel ahhh-mazing in five minutes flat!
Play Video

1-  The first thing to do is to check your neck and shoulders.

You may not even be aware that you have any tension going on in your neck and shoulders. Take your hand and place it on the opposite shoulder. Grab and squeeze the muscles in your neck and shoulders. Do you feel any hard tissue that feels like rocks? Do you feel tenderness in certain areas? If so, you have accumulated stress and tension in these areas.

2-  Self massage

Now that you are AWARE of some tension, let’s get rid of it. Take your hand and squeeze the skin and muscles. Those places that are more tight, hold the squeeze for several seconds. You will feel the tension slowly melt and dissolve. Take your fingers and poke the muscles. Press the fingertips into the tight places. KEEP BREATHING! Do this all around the shoulder area. Behind the head and neck area. You may find some tight and tender places in front of the shoulder and under the collarbone. Explore and massage.

3- Check In

After massaging one side, check in. Look in the mirror to see if one shoulder is lower than the other. If so, you have done a good job. Amazing isn’t it? Massage both sides. You may find one side is more tight than the other. This is very common.

4-  Drink a big glass of water

After any kind of bodywork and massage, it is a good idea drink water. The kidneys could use some water to help flush all the toxins that you just released into the blood stream.

5-  enjoy a relaxed neck, and stress free shoulders!

Now wasn’t that simple.

Take note of how you are feeling and do tension release technique regularly!

If you are ready to let go of chronic neck and shoulder tension, and increase mobility, than this stuff is for YOU!

Enjoy!
