Instant Pot Philly Steak Sandwich-Tender and Delicious

Instant Pot Philly Beef Sandwich youmakeitsimple.comOnce again, the Instant Pot comes through with another way to SIMPLY your meal prep and improve the flavor of your food. For all you meat eaters and steak sandwich lovers, you are going to love this Instant Pot Philly steak sandwich recipe.

It’s very seldom that I find a steak sandwich that is both flavorful and TENDER. It seems when I order a beef sandwich at a restaurant, it is a chewy tough piece of meat. Not this recipe. Cooking the meat in the pressure cooker, makes the meat ‘melt in your mouth tender’. Put this combination of tender meat, mild peppers, mushrooms (optional), provolone cheese on a toasted hoagie roll and you’ve got a GOOD THING!

Let’s get to it!

Instant Pot Philly Steak Sandwich ingredients

  • 2-2 1/2 lbs beef steak, or roast – thinly slice ( I use a beef roast and have the butcher slice it as thin as they can).
  • 2 onions, slicedorganic bell pepper
  • 3 bell peppers, sliced (red, green or yellow)

Peppers are usually listed on the DIRTY DOZEN list, so buy organic when you can. When the sku number starts with a 9, that means it’s organic.

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 Tablespoons Italian Dressing mix or 1 package Italian Dressing mix
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 beef bouillon cube or 1 teaspoon beef base
  • provolone cheese slices
  • tomato sliced (optional)
  • 6 hoagie rolls

Instructions

  • Slice the steak or roast thinly.

I recommend having the butcher slice it for you. You can also slice the meat in a slightly frozen state, which will make it much easier.

  • Slice the onions, mushrooms and bell peppers.

I love this mushroom chopper.

  • Reserve the mushrooms and half the onions and peppers to saute later.instant pot beef

  • Place all the ingredients, EXCEPT the mushrooms, 1/2 the onion and pepper mixture, and the cheese and rolls into the Instant Pot.

  • Place lid on the pot, flip valve for pressure setting and press “MANUAL”.Instant Pot 20 minutes setting

  • Adjust time to 20 minutes

  • When the beeper sounds, use the NATURAL RELEASE method.saute veggies

  • While the pressure is releasing from the pot, saute the remaining onions and peppers until lightly cooked.

  • Cut the rolls open and place the rolls on a cookie sheet.Instant Pot Philly Beef Sandwich youmakeitsimple.com

  • Top the bread with a dollop of meat mixture and a slice of cheese.

The photo above is half beef and half chicken. (Chicken Philly recipe)

  • Broil for a few minutes until bubbly.

  • Add onions, tomatoes and peppers.

If you like dipping your sandwich, the juice leftover in the pan makes a great au jus.

Enjoy!
