I love the beautiful bright yellow color, the uplifting fragrance and all the awesome things you can do with lemons. Not only are they great to use internally in LEMON WATER and other tasty recipes, lemons have a lot of uses around the house. Lemons are acidic and can provide some antibacterial and antiseptic properties for cleaning, and you know I am all about non-toxic cleaning. Lemon essential oil is another one of my cleaning weapons. Here are some of my favorite ways of using lemons around the house.
To freshen the disposal:
After you have cut and juiced a lemon for your morning lemon water, don’t just throw the rind away! There are still oil properties in the rind that can go to work for you. Simply toss it in the sink disposal and run the hot water. This will keep it fresh and also cut any accumulated grease. If the disposal gets too stinky, you can add a cup of baking soda and vinegar and let it sit for a bit. Then run the disposal. You will love the aroma it brings into your kitchen.
To clean counter tops:
Cut a lemon in half and sprinkle course salt over your kitchen counter tops. Use the lemon, cut side down, as your scourer. It will freshen and clean at the same time. Wipe clean with a wet cloth. Then put it down your disposal.
Using Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon essential oil is a powerful cleansing agent that purifies the air and surfaces, and can be used as a non-toxic cleaner throughout the home. Not only does it have powerful cleaning properties, lemon essential oil is invigorating and energizing. Something we could all use while cleaning.
To clean white boards:
To get the “sticky” off glass jars:
To get SPOT FREE dishes:
So when life hands you a lemon, forget the lemonade and put it to use around your home.
