DIY Kitchen Chalkboard and Magnet Board

I have been wanting a chalkboard in my kitchen for some time now, and I could always use more space for hanging clippings of this and that. (not that I don’t have enough fridge frontage?)
I had a little wall space in my kitchen so I went to work conjuring up a plan.  My husband is such a good sport at helping me with these projects.  We make a great team!  I design and he gets out the tools, and does his magic.  We remodeled our kitchen a few years ago, and he saved us a ton of money by doing all but the cabinets himself.  I love this guy.  He is a keeper!
I thought some of you might enjoy seeing how easy it was to do, so here you go.

This is just a piece of 1/4 inch hardboard from Home Depot.  Prime the section you want to use as chalkboard.

Paint over the primer with chalk paint.

You can glue the board to the wall with paneling glue, or hold it in place with trim.

Glue a piece of pre-painted wood trim down the middle.

This works great for hanging my clipboard calendar and menu pages.  Everything right where the whole family can see it!

So, there you have it.  Find a wall in your house that is screaming  CHALKBOARD  and go for it.
Let me know if you have any questions.
